Kitchens That Make Me Happy

I deal with kitchens day in and day out. Since I'm a kitchen & bath designer, it's just how I roll. Sometimes I stumble upon clever kitchen ideas that make me wanna pass out.

1. Inspiration Sources
Weathered wood floors, white wood paneling, green painted cabinets. Do you see that silver tin ceiling peeking out at you? Simple, lovely, and all pulled from that green and blue dog painting.

2. Open Shelving
Dark wood floors (gorgeous but a cleaning nightmare), crisp white cabinetry, and all that open shelving!! Obviously in this kitchen you'd have to be super tidy and super streamlined with the amount of stuff you display. I bet this homeowner has a Roomba.

3. Non-Traditional Islands
Now I'm not saying I would ever actually do this but there's something about the colorful Legos and the simplicity of the white walls and cabinetry that make this very interesting and not at all kitchy. I wonder how you would go about pricing out an island made entirely of Legos. Per box? Per piece? Yikes....

4. Interesting Details
Yes, I will always prefer a white kitchen. Even when I try to force myself to like a kitchen in all wood tones I just can't. It's just not in my nature. Since a lot of white kitchens lately tend to have the same classic details I was pleasantly surprised that this particular kitchen has an interesting spin on the classic white. The girly scalloping details on the island is something I haven't seen and I like how instead of using that detail everywhere they mixed it with  angled furniture feet and chunkier wall corbels. That range is also to die for with the polished gold hardware!

 5. Clever Use of Unused Spaces
I see niches in showers and niches above a range in a kitchen but have yet to see a niche above a refrigerator for decorative items! Sometime kicking your wall cabinetry up to meet high ceilings just doesn't make sense. Especially for tiny people who can't reach anything up there. By doing this you're still making use of that space with something you don't need to access too often.
