Faux Pas?

I'm doing some design consulting for a client building a 13,000 s.f. home. So basically ginormous. The home has a French, Tuscan, Moroccan, ornate, rich vibe to it. So basically lots going on. The subject of faux finishing and detailed ceiling stenciling is now coming up. I'm not one to be on board with that whole idea. I think too many people get it wrong and it looks so typical and tacky. But this is not my home so the only thing I can do at this point is to make sure it's done in the right way.

By that I mean none of this,

Or anything like this,

And definitely nothing that resembles this,

This is what I'm proposing instead. She wants something slightly textured and potentially gold leaf for the foyer ceiling. It's a tray ceiling with lots of moldings so I want to keep it simple but still interesting and rich enough for her. Something like the ceiling in this dining room.

She has also shown me different ceiling designs for her dining room that are somewhat stencil like. The inspiration picture she showed me was very floral based yet she indicated to me she doesn't like florals. Hmmmm...Okay. What I plan on showing her is something a little more graphic in nature but still giving off a feminine vibe.

I'm thinking the pattern in the upper left hand corner. Done in a tone-on-tone way with a pretty dining light fixture I think it could look really elegant and modern at the same time. Even the damask and Moroccan patterns would work. And as much as I would love to suggest trellis to her, it's just too trendy for her home. Trust me on this one...

I also like this pattern (in a monocramatic color scheme) for the dining ceiling as well. I'm thinking this may be too graphic for her though. I'll give it a go and see what happens.

Meeting with her tomorrow to go over this. Should be interesting to see what happens!
