......And I think I kinda got my wish! Secrets of a Stylist, the HGTV Design Star winner Emily Henderson's show, premiered last night. I was actually pretty pumped for this one for a few reasons. I think her concept is brilliant. Assess what someone wears and translate it into an interior space. The absolute best thing about her show was that she presented the entire process of finding a client's style(s), blended them all together, and then took a step back to see if it works. It might not and that's okay! Design is best when it's gradual and doesn't look too forced. You can paint over a ugly wall color if you don't like it...You can return that awful decorative pillow if you want (just hang on to that receipt, lady)! I love design shows as much as the next guy but the majority of them rely on the same concept....Mainly involving a hunky carpenter wearing tight jeans and a whole generic design coming together in 30 minutes. (30 minutes for a kitchen makeover? Really? Really?)
Here's a few of the highlights from last night's show:
How awesome is that painting over the fireplace!? Weird old man art is probably the coolest/sexiest thing ever. (Photo by HGTV) |
I need that yellow bedding. (Photo by HGTV) |
I love the pairing of the two vintage-y prints, the antlers, and the wall mount desk lamps. LOVE. (Photo by HGTV) |
Cool huh? I must say I was sad when she decided to remove the black and white striped Ikea rug and paint the gray back painted shelving back to white . I'm a sucker for that dang rug and I also think the white spray painted ceiling light fixture (see first photo above) would have popped nicely against the gray and white shelving.
RIP lovely rug. I'll miss you. (Photo from Emily Henderson's The Brass Petal ) |
Back paint or wallpaper your shelves kids! Such a great way to dress up built-ins. ( Photo from Emily Henderson's The Brass Petal ) |
To sum it up:
Secrets From a Stylist = Awesome = I'll be watching it next Sunday and so should you!
-Peace-
